train time between London and Stranaer, Scotland

Can any one tell me what the travel time is by train between London and Stranaer, Scottland. In other words, if I board a train in london around 8 or 9 in the morning, (having just landed in London), about what time will I arrive in Stranaer. I need to know so that I can decide if I need to make a reservation for a hotel in Stranaer before I leave the states for london. I will then be taking the ferry to Belfast.

OK - I'll bite. Why on Earth do you want to land in London (you don't say which airport), then travel to the center of the city, catch a train up to Stranraer, and then a ferry to Belfast when you could fly straight there and be in Belfast faster than you could get to the train station in London???

Your itinerary will take most of the day.

The point isn't why I'm landing in London, as opposed to landing in Stranaer, the point is that is exactly what I'm going to do, regardless of the time or expense later involved in train travel. I just want to know about how much time it will take for me to travel from London to Stranaer, Scotland if I leave London early in the morning, say about 8'clock. As originally stated, I want to know if I should be making a reservation at a hotel or B&B in Stranaer prior to my leaving the states, or if I will arrive Stranaer in enough time to select my hotel or B&B at the last minute upon arriving in Stranaer. I will probably be landing London around the 1st of May, but that date is not certain yet.
All I'm looking for is the approx. train time between these two points.

chucker: PatrickLondon gave you the links you need. My point wasn't about "landing in Stranaer" -- I meant you can fly directly from London to Belfast in about 1 hour. Besides saving a full day's travel, flying will cost a fraction of what the train/B&B/ferry combo would cost you.

But if that is what you want to do, it is not an all day train trip to Stranraer so do whatever you want about a B&B.

Chucker, perhaps you, like me, just enjoy train travel. I did a quick check and the first train from London to Stranraer departs Euston station at 10:15 and arrives 7 hours 50 minutes later. I believe one change at Crewe, but you can check that out. If it were me I would prebook a B&B near the station. Check out Smoothhound for a listing.

I am like Roger. I love train travel in Europe, though since they have elimited those incredibly civilized individual compartments, it's not quite like what it used to be. (I'm 70 years old, and have fond memories of the old train travel.)
But, I want to thank each of you who took a few minutes to respond to my request. It was nice of you.
