Hi susan,
>..arriving in Rome FCO at 7:30 AM on the morning of June 10th ...We need to take a train directly to Florence,
>..should we take a train to the station or a taxi
Upon clearing customs, follow the signs that look like a train to the FCO train station. It is well marked.
Buy your tickets to Rome TE and your tickets to Florence at the same time.
Have the ES* schedules printed out. (Trains at 09:00, 09:30 and 10:30, 10:55). You will be booked on the next available train.
If you, like me, like to have everything in place - buy tickets on the 10:55.
You might have to spend an hour at the Rome TE station in the self-service cafeteria having a cuppa, people watching, and getting into the rhythm of Italy, but you will definitely make that train.
Have a nice visit.

I am planning a family trip to Rome this summer. I was following Ira's instructions to buy train tickets on the Trenitalia website, but I found that if I enter one child along with the adults, it will immediately route me to the "familia" choice, which is more expensive than the "Mini" option, which offers the 29Euro fares for adults. Would the train accept the adult ticket for my child? If anyone know an answer to this, please let me know. Thank you.
