Train ticket in advance?
We will be travelling from Valencia to Vigo via Madrid early Sept. There are high speed trains, but I am wondering if I should purchase in advance. It seems that to purchase a changeable or refundable ticket the price is quite a bit higher. Would it be better just to buy the tickets the day of travel? Approx $40 CDN difference per ticket.

Why are you quoting Renfe ticket prices in Canadian dollars? You can't even get prices from Renfe in anything but euro. I don't understand why you are comparing that way, the comparison is buying now versus on site which probably costs about 60 euro more. I don't know if availability would be a problem at last minute. But buying in advance, you have choice of nonrefundable or not, which is up to you if you want to save 15 euro or so and are sure what you want.

Hello, I used the site Rome2Rio, which did give me a quote in CDN, but that's not really the point. You did give me an answer, though, in saying that the price would be about 60 EUR more if purchased on site the day of travel. That's helpful. I didn't know if there was any advantage to buying in advance, since the refundable ticket was quite a bit more. I will probably go ahead and purchase in advance.
