train ticket Bern to Munich? rental car in Munich?

I am very confused about how to find the best rail ticket from Bern to Munich. Can anyone help me find the best rate for two adults travelling on November 7.

Once in Munich we would like to rent a car for the week. Any special websites to visit for this

Or would we be better off doing a one way rental from Bern to Munich?

Any help would be much appreciated

Pam

The drop charge will kill you.
Look at sbb.ch for rail options
Use Autoeurope.com for your car rental

Any reason for renting a car in Munich? I'm assuming that you are planning day trips in the country, but Munich is a hassle with a car.

Checking the Bahn.de website, it looks like you can catch a 12:02 train to Munich from Bern for about 160 euros that takes about 5.5 hours with a change in Zurich.

You won't need or want a car while you are in Munich but there are some great trips to the Alps and other areas out of Munich. In that case contact Bob Bestor at Gemut.com (you don't have to sign up for the website to get them to rent you a car. Rent from a site away from the airport and the train station. They put a 17-20% sur-tax on the whole bill for cars rented at the airport or train station.

Another thought is to take the train just into Germany (to save the drop fee) maybe someplace like Lindau (a charming city on the Bodensee (Lake Constance)). Then you could drive to Munich by way of Fussen, Oberammergau, Garmish and other wonderful places.

If you do the "just over the border" number check to see if there will be an additional charge to drop the car at a different location than where the rental began.
