Thank you for your continued help and the additional info, maybe the faster train is worth the extra Euros?
On my iPhone, there's one for €9 showing that has a 6:41 departure time from Rome Tiburtina with an arrival time of 9:46 at Firenze Refredi Station, that's the one I really wanted but it doesn't show through the main search on the desktop Trenitalia site, only the mobile one and I can't figure out why.
I assume there must be tickets, or it wouldn't still show as available, and I would have likely just booked it if not for the confusion of the days/dates.
Every single train departure listed has the asterisk besides it that indicates the solution applies to the next day, so I still don't understand whether that means it would be the date I want or if the date at the top of the screen is correct.
If you book tickets online, is there some sort of confirmation screen that says the date you booked and all of the info before you confirm payment, or is there a way to be sure before you pay?

That must be a regional train that can never sell out because no reservations are required and takes muchlonger than the 1.5 hours or less by a high-speed train. Any train that takes that long must be a regional train with a dirt-cheap flat fare in any case - again any train that slow is not a high-speed train but a milk train - regional trains may not always show up on Trenitalia.com I think.
Hopefully kybourbon will explain it better! (As usual!)

Same thing (only showing on the iPhone, and asterisks and date changing) happens for a train I want on the 17th departing from Pisa Centrale at 6:32 AM and arriving at Venezia Mestre at 10:19 AM for €17.10.
I think you guys may have talked me into the extra €8 for the high speed train from Rome to Florence, but the Pisa to Venice train is about the same journey time as the others, yet it is significantly cheaper, so I appreciate the help trying to figure this out so I can make sure I book the correct tickets, I tried to e-mail Trenitalia for assistance on their site issue but I'm not really expecting a response.

Did you wonder why there is an "hour" drop down menu on Trenitalia's website?
If you choose an hour the system displays trains leaving from then on.
If you leave it blank the system defaults to the hour of your PC and displays only those trains leaving after that hour.
I guess that your time zone is the middle of the night in Italy, hence the system shows trains leaving before and after midnight, those with the asterisk leave after midnight: the solution applies to the next day.
Trenitalia won't reply because I bet they can't understand what you're talking about.

Falcio, I've chosen the hour I would like to depart and no matter what time I choose, it automatically lists every train with asterisk. So if I choose 0600 for example, it still starts listing trains at midnight with the asterisk, in addition to flipping the date back to the previous day.

It does if you follow my directions (selecting Rome all stations and Florence all stations instead of specific stations). As you start to type Roma select - Roma ( Tutte Le Stazioni ) from the drop down box. Select Firenze ( Tutte Le Stazioni ). Enter the time as 06.
I would not go to the hassle of getting to Tiburtina and getting from Rifredi especially if you can snag a 19€ ticket on the fast Frecce between Rome Termini and Florence SMN. You are talking about 10€ difference and 1 1/2 hours less on the train. Plus you are going to have to pay to reach Tiburtina (even if you catch a bus or subway or both) and between Rifredi and SMN. Those rides will be 1.50€ each (or perhaps more for Florence). It's just more hassle.
>>>Every single train departure listed has the asterisk besides it that indicates the solution applies to the next day<<<
I certainly don't have that problem on my desktop. Have you closed your browser? Cleared the cache? Rebooted your desktop?
Pisa/Florence is a regional train. Buy the ticket in Pisa.

Are you staying in Pisa? Most people don't since it's an easy day trip from Florence (only an hour and 8€ each way). Since the majority of trains between Pisa and Florence are regional trains, there is no point in attempting to buy this ticket online.
I do not see any trains on Trenitalia departing Pisa Centrale at 6:32 searching Pisa/Venice or Pisa/Florence. Is that train changing elsewhere? What are the change stations? What types of trains? Is there a bus symbol on the first leg? Sometimes Trenitalia has some bus connections for one leg on early times. Train numbers?
My results for 17-11-2015 time 06:
Partenza
06:54 Pisa Centrale Arrivo
10:23 Venezia Mestre Durata 03:29
Cambi: 1 Vedi
Treno Regionale
23400 Offerta Ordinaria
Treno Frecciargento
9402 Offerta Economy Prezzo
Scegli a partire da Disponibili offerte Cartafreccia Senior e Young 42,10 €
Even if I enter 05 for the time, I don't get a train departing at the time you listed nor any asterisks (which indicates a train departing another day).

Hey KyBourbon,
I think I will just go ahead and buy the faster train ticket from Rome to Florence, thanks for the advice.
Like I said, I'm using my iPhone, so I don't understand why the asterisks come up in every single search or why the dates flip back to the previous day. Using the desktop site, I don't have those issues but the train I would like doesn't show up nor do any other trains at the price shown on the mobile Trenitalia site.
I was going to stay in Pisa only because I thought it might be easier to just leave from there instead of trying to make sure I get a train back to Florence just to pretty much get back there, sleep for a few hours, and get up to leave the next morning.
Here is the train info for the train I was wanting that shows up on the iPhone, asterisks and date bump back, but not on the desktop site.
Depart Pisa Centrale 6:32 AM, arrive Firenze Refredi 7:26 AM, Regionale Veloce train 3116.
Then Depart Firenze Refredi 7:39 AM, arrive Venezia Mestre 10:19 AM, InterCity train 588.
That shows for €17.10 as the price. No train around those times or for that price shows on the desktop site, only on the Trenitalia mobile site, and I don't understand why.
Thanks again for all of the time everyone has taken to try to help me with this. I appreciate it very much.

that is an IC InterCity train that probably does not even serve Florence SMN - it is slower and cars are older and thus cheaper than trains most people would prefer to be on between Florence and Venice - and you have to transfer at Mestre, another hassle for some.
I've taken IC trains from Rifredi to Mestre and it is nice enough just not as fast nor as modern as the high-speed trains that go right to Venice-Santa Lucia in the heart of Venice. But for the price go for it.

Okay, I think I have finally figured out the issue with the site.
I think the mobile site is going by the time set on my iPhone (east coast time in the United States)...so for the train I was wanting, it's showing up leaving Pisa at 6:32, it's actually a train leaving at 12:32 local time in Italy...hence the date bump and all of the asterisks.
I changed the time on my iPhone to Italian time just to see what would happen, and when I did the search, no asterisks or date bump issues at all.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me with this, even though it was my own oversight. You guys are great and amazingly patient.

You said it was your desktop not showing the trains and having the asterisks. It was your phone? Did you download the Trenitalia app Pronto Treno?
http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/?vgn...008916f90aRCRD
FYI - The last train back from Pisa at night to Florence SMN departs at 10:30pm, but there is also a bus that departs at 1:12am (not sure why you would stay in Pisa so late).

KyBourbon,
Yeah, it was on my iPhone, the desktop wasn't having the issue. I didn't download the app, just used their mobile site that came up when I went to Trenitalia on my iPhone browser, so I suppose it's their mobile site using the local time on my phone and adjusting the search to that, which is why I couldn't figure out why the desktop and mobile site were showing different times. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.
I didn't know how late the trains from Pisa ran, so you're right, I wouldn't need to stay that late, still a point I need to research more. Thanks again for all of the time you took to try and help me and I apologize again for the confusion I caused.

There is also the Terravision bus from Pisa airport (only a few minutes from Pisa Centrale via the People Mover) to Florence SMN. It's 5€ and the People Mover is 1.30€ (runs until midnight).

Most Pisa Florence trains are regional trains that there is no reason to book - flat fare - dirt cheap - even cheaper go to the airport and take the bus - may be cheaper - regional trains are really really cheap - just buy those tickets once in Florence IMO and save all the hassle you've been thru.

There is a small seconday Trenitalia station very very close to the Leaning Tower - it has hourly trains to Pisa Centrale and Lucca and Florence a round-about way. Look at schedules and take the train to that Pisa station (S Leandro ???not sure of name) and be right at the Tower.

The station is Pisa S. Rossore (no amenities), but I don't think it's convenient for your needs. Most trains to Florence from S. Rossore will go to Pisa Centrale first and many will require a train change there. While you might be able to find a route through Lucca, you would have to change there. You might find a couple of trains per day from S. Rossore to Florence that don't require a change. Simpler to take the shuttle bus that runs between the tower and Pisa Centrale.

There are two convenient morning trains running directly to S Rossore from Florence via Pisa Centrale and all other such links have a 10 minutes change in Pisa and to go to Florence from S Rossotre you would not go via Lucca unless you want to visit that wonderful walled town known for its many towers where the rich could escape the rabble and plague raging below.
but if not yes the shuttle bus may be more convenient if it leaves within 10 minutes or so of the arrival of trains from Florence. But two trains around 9:30 and an hour later go directly to S Rossore from Florence via Pisa Centrale - if those two work that would be more convenient than changing to a shuttle bus - S Rossore is literally a 5-minute stroll from the Leaning Tower - and there is a large supermarket you pass by in case you want to stock up on water, beverages, picnic supplies, etc.
so it depends on when you leave Florence - catch the relatively few direct trains from Florence to S Rossore would be optimal IMO - if you don't have to change trains (and if you do it's only a 10 minute or so change at a relatively small easy to manage Pisa station.
