Train Prague - Moscow
We're trying to come up with a special trip next June for my retirement and our 20th anniversary. We love train travel and we love cruises. We have also heard that Prague is a beautiful city. So, I was wondering if anyone has ever traveled by train from Prague to Moscow. I did a little bit of checking online and it looks like it might be possible. Just wondering how difficult it would be and also how safe. From there were are thinking of doing one of the river cruises from Moscoe to St, Petersburg. Any advice or thoughts are welcome.

There is one through train daily, leaving Praha at 2300 and reaching Moskva about 32 hours later, after travelling through Poland, Belarus and Russia. The train has sleeping cars. You'd need to sort out visas for both Belarus and Russia.
If you break the journey, the possibilities are almost infinite. Schedules are on www.bahn.de, and more information on rail travel is on www.seat61.com.

I did it 2004, although I don't think you take my route (via Vilnius) any more. See http://wilhelmswords.com/rtw2004/index.html - North by Northeast. Try to avoid Belarus - it's an annoying and expensive visa.
