It is best to start not assuming that you will need a pass of any sort. Use www.nationalrail.co.uk to price tickets for individual journeys within the UK and www.eurostar.com for journeys between London and Paris.

What is your itinerary in the UK? While last-minute point-to-point tickets for long distance trains are very expensive, discount fare tickets booked well in advance can be very cheap.
Still, passes might be a good deal for you because of the family discount. For each adult pass purchased one child (ages 5-15) travels free. Other children get up to 50% off the regular adult fare.
For London-Paris if you book well in advance (up to 120 days allowed) at www.eurostar.com, you can get discount fare tickets for a very reasonable price. Your tickets will be non-exchangeable and non-refundable. Last-minute tickets give you flexibility but are very expensive.

Within the UK you should look at the Families & Friends Railcard
http://www.familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk/
You can buy it in the UK but you can book tickets before then saying you have it just as long as you buy the card before you travel
