Train La Spezia to C.T. Schedule
I've looked at the Trenitalia schedule and see many trains each day from La Spezia to Levanto (C.T) but no information on the stops each train makes. Other postings have advised that not all trains stop at each town in C.T.
Is there anyway to find out which train stops where before getting to the La Spezia station?

Try searching for times between La Spezia and Vernazza. Many trains indeed do not stop in some of the CT towns like Vernazza. If a train stops in Vernazza, it will probably stop in all the towns.
I'd guess there are trains roughly once an hour give or take.

The hourly as so local trains do stop at every station
IC and better often only stop at Riomaggiore and/or Monterosso
Go to www.bahn.de - German rail website for intermediate stops of these trains (gives schedules for all of Europe) - go to www.budgeteuropetravel.com and on their home page click on the link All european Train Timetables or some such wording and you'll be linked to English schedule page of www.bahn.de - the home page referenced gives several tips on using the bahn site and how to get the intermediate stops Or just put in La Spezia to the station you want to go to.

Hi Wayne
When you get the list of trains (in trenitalia.it) on your specified date and at your specified time from La Spezia to Levanto, pick one and click on 'details' - when that train's details come up, click on the train's number and a separate window will open, giving you the arrival and departure times at/from all the stops that train makes between La Spezia and Levanto. Obviously the 'R' trains (regionale) make more stops than the faster trains do. I have no idea how I found this out - maybe someone told me, but I believe I just kept clicking on things in the Trenitalia page in an Italian kind of way until ..... Bingo!!

This is a good site from Trenitalia to show routes and times. It's a large window so you might have to adjust you display monitor.

i just returned from there.
There is a special thing called a cinque terre card that includes hiking fees and train passes. The train pass lets you ride as many times as you want from La Spezia to Levanto, including all the 5 stops between those 2 towns. These are the CT: RioMaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernaza, Monterosso. I did not see this cinque terre cardx on the trenitalia website.
We bought our passes when we were about to enter the actual Amor trail from RioMaggiore. IN case you don't know, the CT is now a national park. It has TONS of hiking trails but the most famous trek is the one along the coast that goes through the 5 towns (i.e. cinque terre). You need a pass to walk on these trails and it is actually checked on the major trail between the towns. I think that one trail is called the Trail of Love (Amor somethingorother). Anyway, you can buy a combinaiton pass that includes the unlimited train.
Cost... I THINK is was 8E per day per person. not so bad.
Google "cinque terre card" and see if you get something. if not, just show up at any of the train station (including la spezia) and buy it there

Wayne,
Oh and in case i gave way more info than you needed without answering the main thing you need.....
Do not worry ab out schedules. ASs long as you are between 8 am and 7 pm there are many many trains from la spezia that stop at all the CT towns. you can just go without a schedule and not worry about it.

Does anyone know if the three smaller 5 Terre train stations are staffed, or only machines for tickets? Thinking of those with railpasses being able to make reservations for ES trains elsewhere there for instance
assume Monterosso and Riomaggiore are fully staffed stations?
can you buy the 5 Terre train pass at all stations - Tobacchis? thanks

This page of trenitalia gives ticket sale points. First at manned stations with hours of operation, then travel agents, then other places.

When I was there a couple years ago, the CT card also included the boat between towns (except Corniglia). It runs from Easter to some time in the fall, weather permitting. Don't know if this is still included, but it did make it a really good deal for us.

I bought a 3-day CT card which covered not only hiking but the trains (and buses). I don't remember what it cost but I seem to remember it was more expensive than I'd expected. One website quotes it as 13 Euros for three days (I can't find a price on the Trenitalia website). It's one of the few things I paid for in cash so I don't know what I paid (I still have the card but it has no price on it).

There are shuttle buses in places like the train station at Corniglia up the steep steps to town at the top of the hill. There may be buses between towns but the train is usually much more convenient I think. I think you'd take an intertown bus only if you wanted to get off/get on somewhere in between the train stations. Trains from town to town are very quick but may come only once an hour or so.
Didn't ride any boats in the CT, so I'm not sure what boats would have been covered. By October the boat that ran from Levanto (where I stayed) was not covered by the card.
You can just get separate train tickets (even per train) and pay separately for hiking the trail. I wound up using the trains numerous times, all three days, but hiking only two of three days. Maybe I would have saved a few bucks not buying the card, not sure, but it was sure more convenient than fussing with tickets, etc. One card and I'm done.
