train info for Switzerland and Italy
We are spending a few days in Geneva, then on to join friends on Lake Como at Bellagio; and then a side trip to Venice before flying out of Milan. All this in a couple of weeks.
We would like to maximize use of train travel, so -
1. recommendations for train(s) from Geneva to Lake Como (from what we've read, we will probably take a ferry up to Bellagio)
2. train in and out of Venice (we are staying a couple of nights)?
3. finally, what is best mode of transport from Bellagio to Malpensa (we may stay the night before in Milan but that's doubtful)
OK, here are more details: I am over 60 but my wife is not; any use of "senior" status available? And, is some sort of Eurail pass useful, or just point-to-point?
Thanks, all.

1. The easy solution is: direct international train Geneva to Milan Centrale - regional train Milan to Varenna - Ferry from Varenna to Bellagio. There is some walking, downhill, from the Varenna station to the Varenna ferry dock. -- There are a couple of scenic detours possible but involving a lot of train changes.
2. Ferry from Bellagio to Varenna, walk (this time uphill) to Varenna station, train to Milan centrale, fast train to Venice.
3. Ferry or bus Bellagio-Como, walk from the ferry dock to the tiny Como lago railway station (not to Como S. Giovanni, please) - then commuter train to Saronno, change to train to MXP. These trains are not on the trenitalia timetable but on the ferrovie nord system.

You can not easily side trip to Venice from Lake Como unless you are planning to overnight in Venice.
3. Flights usually depart early. I imagine you will have to hire a driver if you want to make your flight.
Point-to-point will be cheaper.

Thanks to both. We WILL be staying in Venice for a couple of nights.
Re trains, both from Geneve and Como-Venice, does it make sense to buy tickets in advance, over the internet?? If so, what is best site?
Thanks again,
