Train from Salzburg to Vienna....REALLY expensive???
Hi, I have looked online at www.bahn.de and www.oatt.at and the prices for 2 x return tickets 2 Apr dep - 4 Apr return Salzburg - Vienna just seem to be so expensive!! Nearing 200 Euros in total...this is far too expensive, no cheap fares are coming up, just normal fare. Am i entering the correct info / looking on the right sites? Is there any way i can travel cheaper, the dates aren't flexible, any coaches I can get?
Thank you
Thank you

The correct website for Austrian Rail is
www.oebb.at
Salzburg - Vienna is 79,40 one way for 2 tickets ( 2 people )same price if you buy today or immediately before your travel. - normal 2nd class fare.
If under 26 or over 65 - you can purchse a VorteilScard that offers a 50 % reduction on normal fares-
Information for this also on the website. information on the above mentioned website. You need a photo and must fill in an appication

If you're willing to stick to slower regional trains, make several changes enroute, and travel after 09:00 on weekdays (anytime on weekends), buy Einfach-Raus-Tickets. Each ticket costs 28€ TOTAL for 2-5 people traveling together anywhere in Austria. See here: http://tinyurl.com/34rfm4.

The problem with the Einfach-Raus ticket is that on the Vienna - Salzburg line I see no trains other than EC, IC and ICE trains. (There is an EN REX at 2 am, but the Einfach-Raus ticket is stated as being valid during the week only from 9 am through midnight.
Just how would one use such a ticket to travel between Vienna and Salzburg.

The straightforward request from OeBB would assume that you want to get there fastest, not cheapest.
1) Go to www.bahn.de
2) enter Salzburg, Wien and your traveling time.
3) choose "only local transport" option
4) search
-> you get your schedule for the connections usable with the Einfach-Raus-Ticket

I must agree that the DB site is much easier to use than the OEBB site.
I finally found the Einfach-Raus eligible trains, but I had to click under Routeplanner after entering Salzburg and Vienna.
Then I had to drill down to find it.
Not as easy as the DB site.
