Train from Florence to Venice

We will be staying in Tuscany in June and are thinking of taking a day trip to Venice by train. Does anyone have experience with this who can give some advice? Thanks.

Tuscany is a big area (not all of it has train service). What part of Tuscany?

There is no problem taking a train from SMN station in the centre of Florence to SL station right on the Grand Canal in Venice. The journey takes about 2 hours and the trains leave regularly. Depart Florence on the 8.30am and return ex Venice about 7.30pm. Trenitalia.com has all the timetables and priceing.

Takes three hours by train, but I would do it, better than not going at all. I would leave earlier in the morning and return later in the evening.

Double check weekend versus weekday schedules. Sometimes you have more flexibility on weekdays and fewer folks heading out for or back from weekends. A weekday trip to Venice may be less crowded as well. Although it's so popular, that might not be a factor. Please let everyone know how it goes.
