could anyone tell me approximately how much this costs? Do I need to book in advance? I found a site that shows the times and the journey but it says pricing is not yet available. I am trying to see if another trip is in our budget.

No reason to - fairly cheap, say $15 or so each way i suspect - no reservations possible on most trains, which leave twice hourly or so. Just buy ticket at Brussels Airport train station if landing there or at any train station. May get a return price a bit cheaper so always ask.

we paid 13.20 euro from Brussels airport to Bruges last weekend. This was a one way ticket. We changed at the Midi Station. On the return trip we changed at the Nord Station. Very easy trip. 20 minutes from the airport, then one hour to Bruges.

it was under 15E and the trains departed about hourly. very easy to do and I was jet lagged at the time. book when you get to the train station

It's cheap, and even cheaper if you're traveling round trip or on the w/e.

Trains are every half hour and there are no seat reservations, so no reason to buy tickets in advance. You just buy a ticket at the station and get on any train. The fare is 12 euros one way. A round trip at weekends is 12.80 euros.

I understand that you don't need seat reservations, but do you need to buy tickets for a specific departure time?? To save time on travel day, I had planned to purchase tickets a month in advance with an unknown departure time. Will there be any problemms with doing that??

The tickets are not sold for specified departures. The number of tickets sold is not limited. Just buy a ticket at the station and get on any train. There is no reason to buy tickets in advance.

I will be in BRU on Aug 24th & will take a train to Paris four hours later. On Sept 16th I'll arrive in Brussels from CDG and then I'll have a quick train change for Bruges. I thought that I would purchase the Brussels to Bruges tickets in Aug while I'm there for 4 hrs so I don't have to wait in a long line (if there is one), and make my short train change a long train change. That's why I asked about buying in advance.

Since we are discussing Belgian trains I have a question. When arriving by Eurostar the Eurostar ticket is valid to "any Belgian station". My question is for how long after arriving in Brussels? Our plan is to arrive from London and spend a few hours in Brussels before heading to Brugge.

That would not be a problem.

I think we paid about 25 euro RT for two last month. It was a weekend.

However, there were NO seats available (we bought first class, but no second class seats were open either) for the entire trip Bruges to Brussels. We sat on the floor near the restroom as did many people. Apparently, it was a warm day and many people went to the beach (Oostende, I think).

I don't know if this will have a bearing on your trip or if they put more trains in service during the warm months.
