train from Bamberg to Munich
To take the train from Bamberg to Munich on a Saturday am I able to purchase a Bayernticket or other local ticket? There will be 3 adults. Do I need to book that ticket in advance or the day of travel?

1* Yes
2* No. Bayern tickets are always available, and purchasable from either the machine (cheaper) or the ticket office. A Bayern ticket for three people costs about 28 euros. It is only valid for travel on regional or local trains. It also covers travel on the local network in Munich.

"and the time of day restrictions are??????...Commence travel on the regional trains at 9 am or later."
That's how you do it on weekdays. Weekends and holidays permit travel at any hour.

How do you FIND eligible trains? Use the German Railways itinerary page and specify "only local transport" under "means of transport" - only local and regional train options will appear.
Specify "all" instead for all connections, including fast trains. You may find that an advanced-sale discount ticket suits you better once you check the schedules. Most fast train schedules have you on the train for 2-2.5 hours. The slower local and regional trains will typically take 3.5-4 hours.
