Hello All - Trying to avoid costly cab ride to Corinth. I arrive in Greece about 2pm on a Saturday mid June. I understand the train is up and running. Trying to figure out if I should take train with luggage? As well, I believe it's not direct to Corinth however need to transfer trains. Anyone familiar with the system can shed some light?
Seems it would be faster and cheaper than taking a cab, maybe awkward with luggage unless hey have a secure storage area? Thanks in advance.

From the airport I took the suburban rail to the Acharnes Junction. 2 tickets were 12euro. Trains left the airport every 30 minutes or so. At the Junction you have to exit the building, cross the tracks with a pedestrian bridge (no elevator) and walk a hundred yards to the west to get to the National Rail station.

www.ose.gr is the Greek National Rail site. Click on the "EN" to get it in English. Select ATHINA and KORINTHOS to see the train times. There are quite a few during a day.

2 first class tickets to Diakopfto (further than Corinth) were 26euro in October, 2004. In Greece 1st class turned out to be just a few euros more then 2nd class and was more comfortable.

There is no secured luggage space. I didn't find it a problem. The new suburban rail has lots of luggage space, overhead and racks. The train from Athens had plenty of space in first class too. Like many places if you have 3 huge steamer trunk suitcases apiece it will be ugly. It should be easy enough to do with a roller suitcase and carry-on per person.

Just outside of Corinth watch for the deep canal dug through solid rock. It's an interesting view.

Thank-you indytravel! I've checked out the site you recommended. Just one question....did you have to switch trains at Monastiraki or direct from airport to the Acharnes Junction? Definitely the way I'll go. Thanks.

There is a possibility that by the time you'll need it a new suburban rail connection will be in operation from the airport straight to Corinth (about 45 minutes) . I cannot be sure for that now though ... Anyway, you should know that the town of Corinth has little to offer in terms of charm . I would only recommend the ancient Corinth, which is 5 kms from the new town and the Corinth canal .

You're welcome. I waited in a long line at the Acharnes Junction station to find out I need to cross the train tracks and walk to the National Rail station. If I can save just one person from waiting in the wrong train line like I did it's worth it.

The suburban rail line went directly to Acharnes Junction. On the rail map link it's the yellow line from the airport.

By the way I had no problems with the trains. Every ticket agent I ran into spoke English.

The trains were nice, clean and modern. I had a couple of beers from the bar car. At 2.20 euro each for an Amstel I didn't think they were too outrageous. Due to the Olympics I've read that the Greek government has been investing more heavily into their train network.
