There is a town in Brittany whose name always makes us laugh as we drive through it on the way from or to the ferry; it's called "Brasparts".

Juvenile I know.

How about the city of Condom in the Gers department of France. We stayed in a lovely B&B near Condom and had dinner at the Restaurant de Bastard in nearby Lectoire.

Probably was!! No history was on the back of the Bastard's menu suggesting how the restaurant got it's name.

If staying in Amboise there is an interesting folly in a lovely park just a few kms out of town - the Pagoda de Chanteloup - the only remains of a lavish palace some royal hanger on built in the 1700s and when he went bankrupt it was torn down and sold for scrap - but the Chinese pagoda remained intact- it reflects an infatuation with things Chinese at that time and today it stands lonely sentinel to the glorious past in a vast park. You can climb up the Pagoda- easy to hit on the way into or out of Amboise when coming from the south or east.

Also in Amboise don't miss the street of troglodyte houses that are just due south of the chateau - some are B&Bs.
