I did check Trip Advisor but I'm not familiar with the areas of Toulouse. We will be there 2 nights staying at The Grand Hotel de L'Opera on the main square.

I do plan on asking for recommendations at the hotel, but I thought maybe there would be a Fodorite familiar with the area. The first night we will be jet lagged and looking for a more casual bistro type dinner. The 2nd night also not too high end. Price, maybe up to 100 Euros for 2 if possible. We like a comfortable, nice looking, French style room( not stark modern) or even outside dining to people watch. We would like to be able to walk there from the hotel.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Even though its decor doesn't fit the description of your preferences, I thought I'd mention that my meal at Le 19 last May (2011) was superb: Wonderful food, great service, incredible value, interesting setting. Google tells me it should be less than a 10 minute walk from your hotel, and that sounds about right to me from what I remember.

BTW, I also ate at the Brasserie des Beaux Arts, which I thought seriously overpriced. The food was OK - just OK - and the service was, at best, inconsistent. Just one view of one meal....

I loved Toulouse and hope you do, too.

I still really like the Brasserie des Beaux Arts, but agree that service isn't as good as it used to be. But it's a nice ambience and good food.

In checking this out---at the top part or the text in blue it says updat restaurant details. When I click on that, it says that this restaurant is closed. Yet, there are reviews from May, 2012. What's that all about?

If you click on "update restaurant details" you are indicating that you have information to provide to TripAdvisor by way of an update. Your options include saying that it is closed or that the address is incorrect or whatever. The restaurant is still open. Here's its web-site:
