Hello,
I will be staying in Toulouse for ~3weeks. I was wondering if you had any ideas for day trips other than Carcasone and Bordeaux. Also whats the best / most economical way to get there. I am traveling alone!

Although I haven't been to Toulouse, I've been researching this area for an upcoming trip in October.
A good day trip from Toulouse might include Albi and Cordes-sur-Ciel. I've read that Albi is interesting (very good Toulouse-Lautrec museum) and the nearby medieval hilltown of Cordes-sur-Ciel, is supposed to be one of the loveliest in France.
Will you have a car? Not sure how easy it is to get to Albi or surrounding area without one.

Albi is the best history wise and if you have the slightest interest in technology visit the Airbus factory.
You are not allowed to take photos of the new planes, but (HA HA) they are clearly visable from the airport!!!
Town center and side streets are lots of fun. It's a university town so lots of graffiti, so what!Opera buffs see what is on! and take the cute little train trip around town that you can catch near the town hall/opera house. Ask the locals!

Albi is very reachable by train. The cathedral and the Toulouse Lautrec museum next door are a must. Moissac has a well known church portal and monastery. Montauban has a lovely double arched town square and the Ingres museum.

Albi is one of our favorite towns. Don't miss the cathedral, which is most unusual. When visiting the museum, don't miss the gardens in the back overlooking the river. We have also stayed in Corder-sur-Ceil, which is lovely.

Thanks a lot for all of your responses. Would you recommend Lourdes? Also do you know if there is a train station near the downtown area (Toulouse Centre).

I never considered the pilgrimage area of Lourdes particularly interesting, but I have good memories of its fortified castle. Lourdes is the gateway to the central Pyrenees, and you might be able to arrange a bus tour to Gavarnie, or possibly do it from Toulouse itself.
