Day trip from Toulouse
Hi,
I am going to be staying in Toulouse for two nights in June and would like to take a day trip one of the days either to Auch or to Cahors and/or Montauban. I will be taking the train.
Has anyone visited these places and, if so, any advice on which to choose? I want to spend the day poking around in a pretty village on the water with a few interesting sights. Auch interetsed me because of the small "market town" aspect and the staircase and statue of d'Artagnan. Cahors was of interest because of the bridge and it looks pretty and better times for trains. Montauban also looks interesting if I can fit on the way to or from Cahors.
Any other suggestions are welcome of course!
Thank you.

Have you already been to Toulouse? There's more than enough to see there for two nights without going further.
If you do really want to get out, I don't recommend Montauban, which someone who lives there described to me as a dormitory town for Toulouse. Haven't heard anything very good about it - even the Ingres museum doesn't have his best work.
We like Cahors (don't know Auch) but it's not a village. An attractive town with quite a good market, but not really up to Toulouse standards.
A pretty village on the water would be St Antonin Noble Val, but you would have to have a car to get there - I've never investigated getting a train there, but I doubt very much that it's possible.
