Dear Fodors, please put a head's up about this somewhere so it's not asked 800 times a week.

Dear xxxx, when a message hasne't been answered for a while it drops down the list. To answer it brings it to the top or "tops" it. Helpful people do this to draw to the attention of others that it's there

Where would they put it? There are many other "functions" and "rules of etiquette" that Fodors should add "somewhere", but they seem to have chosen not to do so.

And "800 times a week"? I don't think it gets asked even 8 times a month. Why so testy about this particular question? Generally don't like newcomers?

I think that newcomers can and should ask about anything they don't understand. And a not-friendly reception for newcomes is the last thing this forum needs. Newcomers are the lifeblood of this forum.

Topping answers to their questions - - and even answering the "what is topping?" question - - these are both good things (and I will give you credit for at least answering the question, Sheila).

Best wishes,

Rex
How many thousands of times have I told you not to exaggerate?

Actually, the reason I suggested it is because, as far as the functioning of the Forum goes, I'm certain it's the most asked question by a significant margin.

I suppose that maybe this is the last time this question was asked before today. 23 days ago.
I believe that it would have some modest value; it might also intimidate newbies, and newbies are the lifeblood of this forum. No newbies? - - not much point to this place. Just a bunch of us regulars talking to each other. It would grow stale very, very fast. It's not like any of us are gone off on a new trip every month or anything.

Author: Rex ([email protected])
Date: 02/06/2002, 12:19 pm

Message: Personally, I don't want to drive away those who come here and don't YET "know it all".

Newbies are the lifeblood of this forum.

Author: Rex ([email protected])
Date: 03/21/2001, 08:31 am

Message: For me, the lifeblood of this forum is newcomers who come ask, real, serious (even if sometimes easy or trivial) questions - - and the spectrum of answers they receive. And I doubt that more than a small fraction of them tell anybody else anything good or bad about the forum. I still don't entirely understand how newcomers find their way here.
