Too Long in Venice?
I am planning to spend the last four nights of my honeymoon in Venice. I've been told by some who have been there that its one night too long. Is this true? If so, is there a good place to stop overnight somewhere between Lake Como and Venice? It will be 3-7 July. Thanks.

4 nights in Venice is not too long.
In addition to Venice itself, the islands or Burano and Murano and the Lido are all popular attractions and only a vaporetto ride away. So you could easily fill your days.
(Some people also like Chiaggio, at the southern end of the lagoon, but it is not as popular as the first three).
What you should do is a personal decision about how hectic you want your honeymoon to be.
Verona would be a good town to research.
You could also add another day to Lake Como. (your choice).
Do you have any particular interests/ hobbies?

I'd say it in another way... 4 nights is the *minimum* to me to visit Venice.
Venice is funny that way. Seems people either love it or hate it, rarely are neutral. Maybe the "some" who told you that are in the 2nd camp.

Bob C, I absolutely agree. On my previous trips to Venice (2xs) I had only spent one night there and was not a big fan BUT my DH convinced me to base there on this last trip of 7 nights. I fell in love with it. We had more day trips planned that we cancelled to just "chill" in Venice proper.

Four nights in Venice is not too much especially if you want to go to any of the islands. In June 2002 my husband and two kids spent 2 nights and could have stayed longer--not enough time to see the islands. In July of 2005 we travelled the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, into Slovenia and ended with 4 nights in Venice. We were able to enjoy Venice at a much more relaxed pace and could easily have stayed for a week. We also loved Burano! Happened to be there and saw the evening passeggiata (stroll). It was so fun! I would recommend getting a 72 hour vaporetti pass. You can hop on and off whenever you want.

I agree that 4 nights is a good idea. Just make sure you have air conditioning. If you get bored, or annoyed by the crowds, try visiting Verona or Torcello. Or even the Lido. But I think if you take it easy, stay up late and sleep in, you'll be happy you stayed those four nights.
By the way, what I do disagree with is that the people who dislike Venice didn't like it because they didn't spend enough time there. I've known people who spent weeks and months in Venice and simply don't like it. I spent a week there and felt overjoyed to get to see so much fabulous art and architecture (I've seen canals other places) but I'd never want to live in Venice, and there are plenty of other places in Italy I'd like to live.
