Too long in Sienna?

We are going to Rome for 3 days , then a cooking school for 6days and then to Sienna . We'll rent a car and travel around tuscany using a hotel in Sienna as out base for 3 days. Then a return to Florence for 2and a 1/2 days. Then home. How does this sound as we have no experience in Italy or the Tuscany area.

I'd love some suggestions as to day trips to take from Sienna, I hear the Chiati roasd is a must. Are there plenty of gas stations available?
