How would you rate toilets, restrooms on Greek Isles?

I've never found any more of a problem with any Greek toilet I can remember (and I've seen more than a few) than I've found with American public toilets. Also, probably like you, I've found some really, really filithy toilets in the States, but I can't say that I've found any in Greece that any problem at all.
My guess is that if you are in well-touristed locales/sites you'll find that they have good reasons to keep the place clean.
Actually, the dirtiest toilet I've ever experienced (I could not make it past the entryway as I was overwhelmed) was in Austria on the autoroute that comes N into Austria from Cortina.
I have to note that I sense a little prejudice in your note. Concerned about those swarthy types???

I have to say the two most disgusting public toilets I can recall were on Mykonos. So bad I took one look and left (and I'm not usually that fussy). The toilets in restaurants and bars were fine. Don't recall any squat loos but they are probably about.
Kay

Hi

Greece has normal "sit down type !" facilities.

Some islands have strange plumbing systems and you are required to put your used paper in a box rather than in the toilet.

What did you expect ?

Peter
I've encountered a number of squat loos outside the big cities and tourist areas.

I DEFINITELY agree w/ Nigel. Be prepared for the worst, and anything better will be a bonus. DON'T !!!!! forget to carry some toilet paper w/ you at all times - and this includes at some of the spots you might stop for lunch. Usually the nicer restaurants you might go to at night will be fine. We also encountered some of the squat type "bathrooms" in France a couple of weeks ago.

Although bigger hotels and towns have regular toilets, there ARE squat toilets in smaller towns in Greece. And the wastebasket in the stall is meant for the toilet paper. Don't flush it.
Vera

Toilets range from luxury sit downs to squatting over a hole in the ground.

Most places are fine on the islands, but in more remote areas, be prepared to bring your own paper and squat precariously over a hole.

Yes, Greek plumbing can't handle paper being flushed so if there's a bin near the toilet, it's for the paper. If not, flush away.

K

What is it about July 17th? First there were numerous posts asking about the bathrooms and showers in Paris now-toilets in different cities.

JD, you are a jackass! The States have far better, cleaner toilets than Greece. I have traveled to Greece 5 times, since I have relatives that live there. You cannot compare modern toilets of America to those of many greek establishments.

So, tell me, J M HAY, did you cancel your trips because the toilets on the Greek Isles weren't up to your standard?

I've been too quite a few greek islands as well as through the Pelp. and I have never seen a squat toilet. My complaint is that many of the toilets do not have seats. The only really dirty washroom I saw was at a nightclub in Fira and on the ferry to Santorini.
