I wouldn[t tip the owners not in Italy not in the US, if you stay more than one night and the maid is visible, you can tip her if you like.I would .

I agree with Graziella. Tip the maids about 1/2 Euro per person per night.<BR>You can leave the money in an envelope at the desk if you don't see the maid.

At most B&Bs, the owner IS the maid. You're not usually dealing with employees who may not get much of the room rate. You're already paying directly the person who's doing all the work.

In any ase, in italy tipping is not customary nor, often, well-accepted even by the people you are tipping. Tip only someone that really goes beyond his or hers usual duties, in any other case a tip will not be expected and may even be thought of as mildly offensive by the people you are tipping. By the way, unlike in the Us, maids in Italy do not depend on tips for their monthly income.
