I agree completely with ic_uk observations especially with the speed they want you out the restaurant, but to Americans I think they perceive it as good service.

The problem is Americans bring the same attitude overseas and they are unable to see the negative consequences that tipping can bring, especially in Asian countries.

We had a leisurely 3 hour dinner last night with our friends at Perbacco in downtown San Francisco. We were not "hurried" by anyone waiting on us at all. Three of us (including me) are SF Bay Area natives. Don't make generalities about people in the US. In our old neighborhood in San Francisco (Noe Valley), only 4% of the voters voted for Trump - with a 90% voter turnout rate. In all of San Francisco, he got less than 10%. Nationally he got around 46%. So that shows you how diversified the US is.
