Spending 3 days in Lauterbrunnen in late August. Staying at Hotel Silberhorn but would like some recommendations of restaurants and things we must see in the area. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We thought Lauterbrunnen was lovely, it's quite small but we found enough places to eat. Had two good meals at the Hotel Oberland, you can eat outside if it's warm enough and there are stunning views. We also had pizza one night. There is a small bakery in the village that makes sandwiches and rolls with fillings (ham and cheese etc) you can buy to take on a walk.

We did a couple of great walks from Lauterbrunnen, one to Kleine Scheidegg and one to Murren and Schilthorn. Also a day trip by train to Thun which we really liked. It's a small town with some nice shops, a river with waterwheels and a castle. You catch the train to Interlaken then change to another train to Thun. We thought about taking a boat ride on the lake instead of the train but it took a few hours and we ran out of time.

Have you gotten your guidebooks yet? I thought The Rough Guide particularly informative about Lauterbrunnen, and I thought the Michelin Green Guide very helpful for the Bernese Oberland in general.

Take the trip up to the Jungfrau. Yes, it isn't cheap. Yes, the views are spectacular. Yes, "everybody" does do it; there's a good reason.

There is nothing to see at Lauterbrunnen (may be except tourists fromn overseas), but it's a little transport hub for journeys to Wengen - Maennlichen, Wengen - Kleine Scheidegg - Jungfraujoch, Isenfluh, Grutschalp - Muerren - Allmendhubel, Stechelberg - Gimmelwald - Muerren - Schilthorn, Zweiluetschinen - Grindelwald - First, Wilderswil - Schynige Platte, Interlaken - Lake Thun or Lake Brienz.....
And there are many waterfalls (otherwise it wouldn't have been named Lauterbrunnen).

Thank you all so much for the great advice. My wife are going with friends who planned the trip so now I something to add. I can now to delve into the guide books and have a idea of what we should try to do. Thanks again for your time and sharing your knowledge.
