Fantastic post! I have been scrolling here since 1998 or so and still come up with interesting and well thought out suggestions.

Let's have a great 2005 and go TRAVEL!

Better said than I ever could, JimF. I sit here at the computer drinking a kir (which on New Year's Eve shall be transformed into a kir royale) thinking that you really did hit the nail on the head. Happy Travels in 2005 to you and all the other Fodorites!

Actually, darling, fringe is rather important. Imagine a pashmina shawl, lampshade, or kilim carpet without it. It would all be rather plain, really. As dull as dishwater.

And remember, just as in real life, people on this forum are better looking if you've had at least three martinis.

Cheers,
John G.

Great Post JimF. For me, this forum provides:

1) Education: Learning about the European Culture and History.
2) Travel Planning: I will never be disappointed by another travel agency again.
3)Fantasy: Every day provides an opportunity to live through someone elses travel experiences.
4) Friendships: Although we all hide behind our screen names, I can't help but feel that I know some of you through the frequent friendly exchanges.

And yes, this site provides an opportunity for me to help others. While this site has many travel experts, even the novice traveler's experiences and opinions are respected by all.

Hey Jim, nice post. It's the community that keeps me coming back here, too. That, and the chance to contribute to a quality knowledge base that continually updates itself. It's a valuable resource...and a great way to waste time at work!

And a Happy New Year to all as well!

Yes, it's fun to watch and share in this exchange. I've learned alot and been glad to contribute from time to time.

But too bad we do seem to hide behind our screen names. I have wished I knew more about someone with similar tastes.

You really can't have community, though. People watching is only staring at those passing by you. But you can at least have these passing friendships! Maybe that's worth something.

Fine observations Jim. I've been hanging around here for 3 or 4 years now and have been on the sidelines and in the game. I've gotten excellent advice from people here and passed on a little myself. Here's hoping we all have a happy and prosperous (in all ways) New Year!

I couldn't agree more. Whenever we pick a different hotel/venue I always refer to Fodors. You have advised on far flung holidays we have taken, so that we could travel with confidence, knowing just where to go and restaurants to visit.
