THIS IS WHY WE POST HERE IN TIMES OF TRADEGY.

Many of us use this board in times of joy. We plan our trips and share our experiences. We see familiar names from other countries answering the questions posed by us and others.

Then sometime big happens. Like 9 11 or in my countries case 7 7. We feel the need to share it not just with those close by. It is too huge for that. We feel the need to communicate on a world level with like minded people.

We don't always want to post on a politcial board where people tend to over intellectualise everything. We want to discuss our feelings about the event and get the opinions and feedback of others. So that's what it is all about.

Fodors is a site we use to plan some of the most momentous and entertaining moments of our lives and we return to it to share our tragedies with those who have also shared our joys. Where's the harm in that. this is a travel board but in all things there are exceptional circumstances. Sometimes the rule book needs to be set aside. There are greater things that need a little space and out of such postings come some of the best contributions that humankind can offer. As for the inappropriate and bigoted, all thinking people know to ignore them.

THANK YOU Buzzy.

I will reprint here what I've just posted on another thread:

As a Londoner who walked 3 hours to get home last night, who heard of a former colleague in surgery with leg wounds, and had a close friend who unbelievably walked away from the Kings Cross train where 21 alone died, I am deeply offended that Fodors have chosen to remove a post which showed so much heart and feeling from the Fodor's community. And this is a community. If it was just about travel, well you can just read a guidebook for that. What's more, I didn't get to read the majority of the post because I'm in a different time zone. Can I ask all of you to send an email to the editors demanding the return of that post. [email protected]

I feel incredibly angry with Fodor's today.

Buzzy & Kate,

I wholeheartly agree. The editors had a totaly kneejerk reaction in pulling the earlier thread!!!

To everyone in London, Godspeed, and dont let the lowlife SOB's who did this win!! Throughout history your resolve and spirit has prevailed!!

There should be just as mant posts here today with this one sentiment, followed by your actually taking this one action:

e-mail this thread to [email protected]

They really do provide you the easy means to do it. So everyone, just do it...

Optionally, add a post here, saying "I did it".

Best wishes,

Rex

I know that parts of the original thread have been copied and pasted on news threads this morning, but I feel Fodors should reinstate the original one .
This is the message I sent to the editors:

Dear Editors,

Please reinstate yesterday's original thread on the bombings in London.
The thread was begun by a Londoner as the event was unfolding. Many of us on this board first learned of the explosions from reading that post.

That thread contained so many messages of heartfelt concern for London Fodorites who have so graciously given us travel tips over the years.

This community may be a cyber one but the bonds of friendship here are real. We all were relieved as one by one our London Fodorite friends reported in to say they were OK.

Respectfully,
Judy S.
