This is a suggestive site!
This is a wonderful site and I enjoy
and am writing down many of your
suggestions. But since I am newly
initiated:
What is to the top?
What is a Fodorite?
What are the pins?
Do you meet together sometimes?
Do you just see each other's answers
so often that you become familiar?
I think I am becoming addicted, too.
How can I print the answers instead
of writing them in longhand?
(I am not much of a computer person)

Hi Nancy,
I am relatively new (been checking in about a month or so now) to the site, but I can answer some of your questions.

If you post a question & no one answers (or relatively few respond), someone may "Top" your post to bring it back up to the top of the entire queue of posts. That way, it becomes more visible, & more people are likely to see, read & respond to it. "Fodorites" are folks like you & me who frequent this board to share info. There are pins that Fodorites might wear while traveling in other countries, so signal to other Fodorites. (I think you can get information on obtaining a pin on the Fodor's home page, but I'm not certain about it.) Sometimes Fodorites meet in other countries & have a drink or dinner together. Sometimes they plan to do this prior to their departures, sometimes they'll see someone wearing the pin & arrange to socialize, if it's something convenient & welcome for all involved.

You do get used to seeing certain people post & some pleasant personalities emerge--Ursula, Elvira, StCirq, Capo, Fred, Rex are all regulars.

I am definitely addicted & hope to stay that way at least until I get to Paris in October!
Cheers & Welcome,
Kathy

Nancy,
Left you hanging with an unfinished, unedited note. Let's try again. To answer some of your questions:
“to the top” There are a number of contributors to the Forum who, while remaining anonymous or using the pseudonym “Topper” , have phenomenal memories and can find and resurrect a query and its responses that may be months old. The “toppers” do so to bring a topic related to a new question to the “top”, that is, so the related older commentary is in close proximity to the new related question.
In other instances, an unanswered query may be topped (brought to the top of the list) in hopes of prompting a response.

A Fodorite is simply someone addicted to Fodors’ forums. The name originated by one of the regular contributors to the forums quite some time ago. It certainly isn’t an “official” category, although Fodors’ personnel have taken no objection to its coinage.

Some time ago, yet another frequent contributor to the forum suggested that Fodorites, when traveling, wear something distinctive, a blue ribbon perhaps, so that Fodorites could recognize one another in their travels. The true Fodors people, recognizing an interesting idea created and offered free distinctive inexpensive pins depicting one of Fodors’ logos, the Flying Man, on a limited basis and for a limited time to anyone requesting one. The offer expired in early May if I’m not mistaken.

Fodorites do indeed meet sometimes, both here in the states and during their travels. Go to this site for some photos of meeting participants:
http://it.uwp.edu/fowler/fodor.htm

If you, like many of us, become addicted to Fodors, you will in time recognize any number of familiar “voices” and names. Many of the contributors to the forum have highly distinctive writing styles as well as a wealth of knowledge regarding specific regions or cities in Europe.

Finally, to print a query and its answers. Move your cursor to the right hand frame where the question and its answers appear. With your cursor, highlight a word or phrase anywhere in the text. Now go to “File” at the tool bar at the top left hand side of your screen, open, scroll to “Print” Highliyen

Well, here I am again to complete another botched up response! How to print and save a query and its responses? There are a couple of ways that I'm aware of; you can place your cursor in the right hand frame (where the question and its responses appear); highlight a word or phrase by scrolling your mouse, then go to the tool bar and click on print. A far better method is to copy and paste by highlighting the entire text, question and answers, right clicking your mouse, choosing "Copy" and then opening a new window with a word processing document and right clicking your mouse and choosing "Save". You can create folders for countries and cities of interest to you. File the saved documents copied from the forum and build yourself a reference library without the need for hard copy.
