Think you've seen all of Kew Gardens. No, you haven't.

And now for something completely different.

"A bird's eye view of Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens opens a walkway in the sky up in the treetops - by the designers of the London Eye"

I saw this a couple of days ago in an article in the Telegraph, but the video on this Times link explains things a lot better

kew had a similar structure set up in the past...it was temporary scaffold but quite extensive. i kind of prefer the tree grove in its natural state.

I was very surprised to learn that entrance to Kew Gardens is 13 pounds per adult.

Can anyone who has been tell me if they thought it was worth it? It seems a lot of money to fork out to look at flowers and trees when you can do that elsewhere for free.

Comments?

Ah me, I remember when is threepence (old money) and it was the only thing that went down in real price on decimalization (to one new penny).

Are you just paying to look at flowers and trees? Well, a bit more than that. It's a botanical garden and museum collection of just about all sorts of plants from almost all sorts of habitats and climates. You're paying to maintain all that, the controlled climates, the research facilities and so on, as well as the overall impact and various remarkable individual specimens.

Is it worth it? Depends on what you're looking for. If it's just enjoying a beautiful public park and garden, you might indeed as well stick to the public parks all over London, or if you're looking for gardening hints and tips, try the RHS at Wisley (or its various other gardens up and down the country) - but that costs too.

Kew is fabulous. It's worth at least twice that.

Thank you, jsmith. What a great idea!

KayF, it was worth it to me a few years ago. I spent some quality time there while DH was in meetings, almost a whole day. Loved the rose gardens and the orchids. Took a tour of the royal courts - but now can't think of the name of the game that is played there, sorry.

It was there that I first thought that I can easily spend a year living in London

janisj, I'm embarrassed. Thought I had posted the link. I've tried to find it again with no success but did find dozens, most with photos or videos, by searching "kew gardens walkway".

KayF, we've travelled more than a dozen times to London and have been to Kew Gardens twice. Once in the spring when azaleas were flowering and the other time in early July. For us worth it.

However, we've never been to the theatre except the Globe.
