Things to do in Berchtesgaden

We arer going to be in Berchtesgaden for 3 days without a car. What is there to do and see if you are relying on public transportation? Are there places to hike or are there other things to see and do?

You will get a visitor's card when you check in for free transport around Garmisch during your stay:

The Fraundorfer's Bavarian evening is fun:

I guess I think Garmisch is more interesting than Berchtesgaden.

Here's your source for Berchtesgaden. Buses serve the outlying areas. Use the German Railways page to find connections.

You can make a daytrip to Salzburg. There is a direct bus from Berchtesgaden to Salzburg (see the second link in the previous post). The most convenient bus stop for the Old Town is Salzburg Mozartsteg. Mozartsteg is a little bridge crossing the Salzach river. You will arrive on the right bank of the river. The Old Town and the bus stop for your trip back to Berchtesgaden are on the other side.

I really liked the Schloss Konigliches in the town itself (a huntiong ox belonging to teh Dukes/Kings of Bavaria). I believe there's another museum as well, but it was closed when I went.
