Well after a few nights in Paris I went down south, where it's been too sunny. Rental car is often in the high 90s or over 100 if I get in after parking it for awhile.

Arms and legs are getting a good tan. I'd advise one of those hats with a wide brim to shade the back of your neck.

I was in Avignon during the heat wave of 2003, and if I could not find a place to park in the shade, when I came back to the car, the thermometer often showed a temperature of about 40° on the dashboard.

No, the Carnavalet is free, but you still have to go through a ticket site for the free municipal museums because they didn't feel like creating a new program just for that. When you confirm your "purchase" the amount to pay is displayed as 0.00.

Just visited today, and my last time there was long enough ago that I have no strong memories. But the upgrade they have done is fabulous. I found it not just culturally and historically outstanding - the entry exhibits simply showing old street and shop signs were unexpectedly extremely moving to me. A reminder that Paris is not just great art and monuments, but also the march of simple people over the centuries, and their legacy in "ordinary" ways is just as profound. I do not ever remember moving through a museum so deliberately, or taking so many pictures. Much more of this in due course.
