When I was in Turkey last year I don't recall seeing any women in burkas. Our guide said burkas are illegal in Turkey, although it's hard to enforce this law. He went on to say head scarves are discouraged at Universities, as it makes it easier to cheat on tests. It's sad how some people lump all Muslim countries together as if they are all the same.
But back to the subject--poor Mermaid, I don't blame her for swimming away!!

Just realized our visit will be like that in the thread where somebody wants to see 10 countries in 15 days... we'll have 2 full days, maybe 2.5 days depending on the flight, and then off on the cruise. But this is the best we'll be able to do next year. So maybe it's good there will be no mermaid

YAY!!
Edvard Eriksen, the sculptor, made a copy for his family, and it will be displayed in Tivoli gardens! I'll be visiting 2 of the attractions I wanted to see in one shot!
