The Last Supper Reservations
My wife and I are leaving for Italy on March 14th. I've tried on several occasions to call the 39 02-89 42 11 46 number that so many of you have recomended to set up a tour of "The Last Supper." Each time I try to call I can't get thru. I'm including the (011) country code when I dial. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or can you recomend another way to book a viewing of this work?

If you'll have a few days in Italy before Milan (or several days in Milan), I think you'd be safe to wait until you're in Italy to try calling again. I, too, could not get through on the phone, and just showed up and was squeezed in. <BR> <BR>This method is a bit risky, however. If no one on this forum can verify the phone number for you (sorry, I have no idea), then you could try calling any hotel in Milan and asking them. They will all know the number - our concierge knew it by heart! (And then you'll also be sure you're dialling Milan correctly). <BR> <BR>As I said, though, I was actually IN Milan, definitely calling the right number, and I could not get through at all. If you never get through by phone, just be sure to get there first thing when they open in the morning, and I'm sure you'll be able to get in either then or that same day. <BR> <BR>Also, I HIGHLY recommend the audio guide. (I also recommend that you actually listen to it as soon as they let you into the waiting area. You need to wait there for at least 15 minutes while the group before you is looking at the painting, which is enough time to listen to almost the whole tape. I found the tape quite interesting, but preferred to look at the painting in silence.)

The www.hellomilan.com website confirms the same telephone number so I can't advise you. The same website says the office opens at 9am Mon through Sat. However, your hotel may be very happy to book this for you; send them a fax or email with some suggested times and ask them to confirm it to you by return fax. <BR>The website also mentions the following: <BR>"If you don't manage to find a slot, you can try joining the queue in Piazza Santa Maria delle Grazie, for places made available by people bookings who don't turn up."

If 39 02-89 42 11 46 is the number (and I'm just getting it from your post), then maybe you should try dialing 011-39-289-42-11-46. I think that should work (leave out the zero because that is the city code -- that's if it works the way it did in London when I lived there).

Believe me, no offense intended, but I've just stopped laughing from the juxtaposition of this thread title with the one on taking groceries to Europe. Should I make reservations for the last supper? Yes, but don't forget to bring a bottle of wine for the host. Oh, my, there I go again...

Rich: If you don't mind paying 3X the ticket price which comes out to $19US, go to www.selectitaly.com/ I heard about the phone problems before so I booked (online) thru them. I believe I got my ticket in maybe a week. They are located in the US (IL.) and there is also a phone & fax number on their order page. HTH Regards, Walter <BR>
