The Ivy or 32 Great Queen St

Which restaurant do you recommend? We could care less about the celebrity spotting at the Ivy but heard that the food is quite good. We also heard the food at 32 Great Queen St is good too. If you had to choose, which one would it be?

Despite having a reputation as a celebrity hangout The Ivy actually is pretty good for food (but is hard to get a table for). Gt Queen St is probably the better for food but doesn’t have the ambience of The Ivy.

The Ivy's good for the kind of food you make yourself and enjoy: recipes that are pretty fault-tolerant if the staff and vibe are enjoyable enough.

Great Queen St serves the kind of food you really need to be a professionally trained chef to get right, using raw ingredients you can only find after a week hawking round every small producer in the country.

Before it became Sleb Central, the Ivy was a place you went to enjoy tasty food: not drool over its technical quality or originality. Still trueish - but if you're not interested in slebs most of us haven't heard of anyway, not really worth all the faff of trying to get in.

This little place might not measure up to Michelin status but I love 30 Great Queen street -Wolfe's Bar & Grill. Good deals on their pre-theatre dinners.
