Hi TA,
>Am I the only one who thinks ira was joking about upgrading his hotel room?<

No. Beachbum also got the joke.

A 200-Euro hotel room costs $270 at 1.35; $260 at 1.30; $250 at 1.25; and $240 at 1.20. So the range isn't all that huge, although it all adds up over several nights paying for a hotel, and food, and so on.

I did all those calculations in my head (what a whiz-kid!) but knew ahead of time that the Euro would have to drop quite a bit further before we could upgrade to a 400-Euro room.

Somehow I think that the dollar will still depreciate over the year, but of course I'm glad that I didn't open a bank account with Euros as I had planned to. I'm still thinking about it though.

If some of the people who "knew this was going to happen!" could please predict the exact rate May 13 - May 25 I'd be most appreciative.
Any takers??

I was referring to the recent (01/07/05) thread "Whoo Hoo!! How Come Nobody's Cheering?" of the euro dropping; and specifically, to my comment:

Message: The talk amongst my Consulate General friends is that the euro is going to drop and be "fixed" (perhaps "maintained" is a better word) at 1.10 to 1 in order to even out the disparity in the currency trade. This is supposed to happen very soon - hush!
===================================

Let's hope it keeps dropping - I want to book that 4* hotel too!!

Well, I CAN accurately predict that the exchange rate will become much more favorable this summer than it has been recently! How do I know that? Because I'm NOT going to Europe this summer, that's how I know!

On Feb 2, UBS forecasts the Euro to be $1.40 in Dec-05 and $1.50 in Dec-06.

Both Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are betting that the US$ will continue its slide. I don't think I'd care to argue with either one.

Wish I'd brought home more than $50 worth of eueros when they were at $1.18. (That's been two years I believe).

Maybe we can all promise to do a daily prayer to the Exchange Gods...I'm going the first 2 weeks in October and it sure would make a big difference if the Euro kept dropping....

Oh, please Exchange God, I promise to be good and not ask, "how much is this in real money?" I promise to educate myself in the demonition of the currency to where I am traveling, oh, dear Exchange God, I promise to spend a lot of and help the local economies of the countries I visit, if you please, please make the Euro go down. Thank you Exchange God.
