Terminal 5 Heathrow, problems???
Does anyone have any current info about the problems at Terminal 5? Has anything improved that resulted in a good experience?
After 4 flights into and out of LHR last June, we pretty much said not again, but it looks like if we use our AA miles we are stcuk with it. Hope somebody has some good news after a recent flight

In late April and early May, there were still personnel training and baggage handling problems at Heathrow, not all of them at Terminal 5. (I posted a Rant on that topic during the first week in May.)
It is, IMHO, absolutely essential to avoid checked baggage at LHR. If you can do that, the problems should be minimized.
On the other hand, the worst experiences at Passport Control in LHR have been better than any experience at US immigration.

I went through T5 on my way to and from PHX last month - I had to transfer to T4 for the flight to PHX still, though that changed just a couple of days after I got back. My baggage was checked in in AMS and arrived in PHX with us, and the same on the return, absolutely no problems.
Since they have transferred more long haul flights to T5 I was half expecting to hear of more problems but it all seems to be going smoothly. My brother flew out of T5 and arrived at his destination with his luggage no problem either.

Just recently flew into Heathrow terminal 3, had overnight layover, then out of terminal 5 to Athens. Baggage arrived fine. Then flew Rome to Heathrow terminal 5, overnight layover, then out of terminal 3 -- baggage fine. On each segment, the baggage was claimed then re-checked, so I can't speak for checking baggage through.

I arrived at Terminal 5 from Paris flight, no probs getting luggage. One elevator was non-functional, but other than that, everything ran smoothly. After CDG, it wsa huge relief to be at LHR! I loved the easy connection to the Undergrund, and the elevators taht just go up and down continuously--no need to prss buttons.
I left from Terminal 3, that LHR shopping mecca, checking baggage through to Chicago, then SFO. It all arrived fine. O'hare made me long to be back at LHR.
In how many airports with multiple security checkpoints, do all the employees bid a pleasant. "Have a good flight" or "safe trip home" after checking your bgs and i.d.? Bravo to the employees of LHR!
