Ten Hour Layover in Newark.

I also posted this on the US Forum.

We have a ten hour layover in Newark before our flight to Europe.

I know we could go into Manhattan, but we would just rather relax.

Does anyone know of an airport hotel that has day rates?

We can use an airline lounge (I am a member) but that seems just too long.

Thanks.

A search on Expedia shows about a dozen hotels within 2 miles of EWR. My experience is that many hotels that close to an airport will have a day use room.

Thanks. I tried the Marriott and they will not tell me until that day if they have room.
It is $125 for eigtht hours but it is really the not telling me that bothers me.

how about using priceline and getting a four star??

check out results of bidding at www.biddingfortravel.com or www.betterbidding.com.

would probably be the cheapest way.

The problem I see with Priceline is that check-in time is usually 3 PM, and so you may not be allowed in before that, so there'd be little point in getting a room then. Possibly a 2-night arrangement would work, but I wouldn't count on it.

have you always been told to wait until 3 to check in? i guess i have been lucky.

also, if you are holder of their frequent stay club, you could hopefully get a much earlier check in, especially under the circumstances.

good luck

You don't tell us the time when you are stuck at Newark Airport. Here is a link that may help you out.
http://newark.airporthotelguide.com/airporthotels.html

All listed hotels have shuttle available. You can look at each hotel etc. if you click reservations.

I usually arrive later for check-in, but I have had to store luggage and wait for the check-in time. Sometimes I've also been allowed in an hour or two early. It just seems like a significant gamble to use Priceline in this instance.

suzi. I wrote to that website, but no answer to if they had a list of hotels with day rates.

I tried putting in the same day dates for arrival and departure and it would not work.

At this point, we think we will just wait at the airport and make the best of it.

Thanks to everyone for suggestions.
