teen dress
Going to London for a week at end of August/beginning of September with two teenage grandchildren. What do you suggest they wear for daily sightseeing? Want them to be comfortable, but not to stand out too much.

Whatever they find comfortable.
There's absolutely nothing (except a three-piece suit, or wearing a tie) that could possibly make anyone stand out in London.
We leave silly concepts of "appropriate" clothing to insular villages like New York or Rome.
Incidentally, there's a truly fatuous article (www.fodors.com/news/story_3391.html) posted here by one of those odd Americans who's obviously never been here, but thinks they can impose small-town American mores on how the world's capital city behaves.
"Older Europeans simply don't wear shorts in the city" it fantasises. The author's knowledge of London obviously comes from 1940s Sherlock Holmes films (at least 10% of men on London's streets is wearing shorts today). "if you plan to visit churches...women will have to cover their shoulders and legs" it adds, demonstrating the author's never been to Mass or Communion in a London church (not a single woman at Mass last Sunday was covering her legs). Whatever you do, don't believe a word Fodors' Americocentric writers tell you about the real world.

Older Europeans may not wear shorts in London because: (1) if they're from any country on the Mediterranean Sea, London is too cold for shorts; (2) on a weekday, they are working; (3) at night, it's too cool; (4) it rains a decent amount -- why wear shorts in the rain?

Half of london's kids look like they should be living in the Bronx anyway. The other half do stupid things with their hair and the girls are all currently wearing bright pink. So in short - anything goes.
But shorts will mae 'em stick out. We don't wear shorts voluntarily unless we are about to play some code of football.
