Well, we're only 60 days prior to departure for Egypt and we have 41 students, 7 grown-ups and me all paid up. Each of us has a valid passport and our airline tickets have been issued.

Several posters have asked for updates on this school trip to Egypt after having followed our good times in Europe in March 2008. In the near future I will be starting a thread on the Africa/Middle East menu choice that will deal with some of the planning issues and concerns we have encountered to date. I will also do my best to follow up with a trip report upon our return.

I look forward to hearing from any interested parties and will do my best to respond to queries you may have.

I hope your 2009 is even better than 2008.

Hi TC - I loved reading this trip report and wish you and your group a great time in Egypt, a place I'd love to visit. When you're ready to write your trip report for Egypt perhaps you can post a link on the Europe board calling some attention to it for folks who don't normally look at the ME/A board. Thanks!

tC, I think we're all ready to join you and your students in Egypt.

I second Adrienne's suggestion: just top this when you start your thread on the Africa/Middle East board and we'll all swarm over to read about your adventures.

Thanks Adrienne and Anselm.

I will prepare a "planning" report in the next short while to allow others to understand the differences between planning for a school group and individual or family travel.

Wish I was going with you all TC !
I'll keep a lookout for your thread on the Africa/ME board.
Between you and Anselm, we have a wealth of beautifully scribed adventures to follow.

All the best, and a Happy New Year to you.

M.

PS Just got back from a week in the Dominican Rebublic. The whole family/clan - 16 of us - left just before Christmas and returned just before NY. Excellent trip for all, but.... missed having snow !!!

(for about 5 minutes).

I envy you and your clan your week in the DR. If you would like to know our weather experiences while you were gone, I would be pleased to tell you about the snow squalls, road closures and frigid temperatures.

Welcome back to the Great White North.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are only 48 days before departure for Cairo and 14 days of Egyptian weather. I have begun a thread on the Africa/Middle East menu choice wherein I try to explain some of the logistical situations I find myself in planning a trip like that.

Since the Egypt 2009 trip is essentially planned, I have started the next trip. Tentatively planned for March 2011, I hope to take a group of adventurous students to Greece (Athens, 4 days on the Aegean), Italy (Rome, Venice) then spend the last two nights in Paris. I already have parents calling to see if their children can go! I take that as a great compliment. I have asked 2 travel agents to see what they can put together for us.

I know I can count on the fine folks at Fodor's to offer suggestions for this trip too!

I have started a thread on the Africa/Middle East board that will explain some of the intricacies of planning a school group excursion such as ours. The actual trip report will start after our return, closer to the end of March.

You can connect with the aforementioned thread by inserting "teacherCanada" in the search box of the Africa/Mid East board.

I welcome any questions.

Wow!

Thanks scotlib. I'm going to have to ask someone to show me how to do links like that.

Hi TC,

To hyperlink a fodor's thread:

Note - it's often helpful to have 2 browser sessions open to do this but it's not essential.

Open the thread you want to link to so it is in the right side of the screen (thread titles will be on the left).

Right click on the title and (depending on your browser) click on "copy shortcut" or "copy link location" or similar.

Paste link in new thread by right clicking and click on "paste" or by using control V keys.
