Taxis in Bellagio, Italy
Hi all,
We will be staying in Bellagio, Lake Como for 3 nights in June 2014.
The hotel is already booked and looks glorious - the Borgo Le Terrazze
http://www.borgoleterrazze.com
The hotel is c. 3km outside of Bellagio and the reason we chose the hotel was mainly for the superb views it offers. With the hotel not being in the centre of Bellagio, it offers 6 trips into the centre via shuttle each day. From what I read on other forums from previous visitors is that on the whole, this is perfectly adequate.
However, I'm sure I read somewhere that the last shuttle from Bellagio is around 9pm (however now I can't find where I saw it). With this is mind, I have a couple of questions from people who have stopped either in Bellagio or Borgi Le Terrazze before:
- Are we likely to want to stay out longer than 9pm? Is there a lot happening after this time or will we just want to simply watch the world go by?
- With the likelihood of wanting to be in the midst of it all after 9pm, is anyone aware of any taxi-type service that is available? There is no public transport to this area (assuming this is because it's quite isolated and high up a hill) and I can't seem to find any reference to taxi services, or similar, apart from airport transfers.
Well wishes,
Rx

It won't be dark until after 9:00p. Personally, I wouldn't want to be tied to a shuttle schedule, especially if it isn't even dark when the last shuttle departs. But I also wouldn't pick remote lodging unless I had a car, so perhaps my travel style is different from yours.
There are usually taxis waiting in the small piazza next to the ferry dock.
There is bus service along the main road between Bellagio and Como, but you'd have to walk up and down the hill to reach it from your lodging. Your stop would be Bellagio Cementeria. Here are the current timetables. (Seven pages, use the bar at the bottom of the page to scroll through the pages.) You should check times again closer to June. Or I'm sure your lodging can assist you.

Consider general dining times in Italy and you will see that you may always be out after 9.
And I'm sorry to say that I did not see taxis in Bellagio and I was looking for them. We stayed at a hotel in town but one that was at the top of a hill. I often wished for a taxi.
I'm sure your hotel is lovely but it sounds too inconvenient for my needs. I will also add that there are striking views all over Bellagio.

There was at least one taxi driver in Bellagio when we visited some 12 years ago. Our hotel (Pergola) called him and he was wonderful. Obviously this may have changed but here's the info I have from his card:

Hi, Rx,
Hope you enjoyed your trip, and I also hope you're still checking your threads.
Did you end up staying at Borgo Le Terraze? My wife and I are planning to stay there in June, and my only concern is the shuttle/taxi situation. I'm wondering what you're experience was with the taxis and shuttles. Were the shuttles convenient? Were you able to find taxis to take you back to Borgo Le Terraze?
Thanks,
Dave
