It seems to be affordable for a weekend, which is what I'm liking! Thanks.

There are also quite a few B&Bs in the area. The Tavistock is a large hotel, as you've figured out
From area, I've walked to St Paul's, the City, Covent Garden,etc.. so it's a good starting point.

The Tavistock is awful! Sheets that don't reach the end of the mattress, have holes and very very narrow beds - unless its had a facelift recently is extremely old and basic.
The adjoining Hotel - The Royal National is a bit better but overloaded with coach tours so there is a traffic jam of people at certain times. The breakfasts are diabolical!
If you must be in the area, try The President and request a top floor room (have their own elevator)These rooms can be very hot in summer. Theres no aircon in any of the affor-mentioned hotels.

We love the Bloomsbury area but prefer The Ibis Euston a bit further along.

I stayed at the Royal National many moons ago...it was..sad. I was on a coach tour!

At the time the Tavistock was...similar.

Trip Advisor will give you some reviews...

A couple of year back I did a British Airways tour and they included in the package the St Giles, which was OK. I got a very good deal, for London, on the Academy, via Expedia.

I would NOT under any circumstances consider staying at the Tavistock. At any price . . . .

If you want a full service place on a budget - then go w/ priceline. If you want to pick a specific place on a budget - then look at LSE student accomodations.

But definitely don't stay at the Tavistock.
