Taking taxis in Madrid
Having read threads of taxi scams.. perhaps this will help.
Especially to the airport or a station of some sort, to avoid possible over-charges or understanding the legal supplements, perhaps it is a good idea for those catching a cab at a hotel to have the concierge/bell man ask for you, directly to the taxi driver, what supplements he will be adding on at the station/airport arrival, and how much they will add up to.
A maximum of two is allowed, so.. if this is made clear before getting in, I would hope that this would reduce the number of passengers feeling/or actually BEING ripped off on their way out of the country.

World Taximeter will also be helpful.

You can also calculate estimated taxi fares in other world cities.

lincasanova, I just wrote in the other taxi-related post. I understood they could only charge ONE supplement, I think I read it in their official website or even in a taxi (the fares must be available to the eye). Now I have my doubts, as I cannot find it, just, as you mention, that two supplements can be charged.

from the muni madrid website
Suplementos
I have called a few taxi companies and there will be TWO supplements if you catch a taxi at the airport and get dropped off at another transportation station, or vice- versa.

I just thought I would chime in as I have only had pleasant experiences with taxis in Madrid and Sevilla, and I have taken them a number of times to/from Atocha station, Santa Justa station, Barajas airport, etc. Maybe I have been very lucky, as I read some of the stories posted on this forum, but all drivers I've had were exceptionally pleasant and honest - I've even had one who stopped the meter about a block before the actual destination point as it loomed in sight!
It is true that if for instance you ask your hotel to call a cab for you, the meter will start running from the point where the driver responds to the call, so that upon pick-up at the hotel, more than the minimum (2.05 euros in Madrid these days) will already appear on the meter, and there is no way to verify the accuracy of this charge, but the one time I did do this the meter reading was still quite low (maybe around 4 euros?!?)and it seemed reasonable given the slight waiting time for us.
However, this being said now I simply go out and hail a cab (very easy to do as they are plentiful), even if it means walking a couple of blocks to a main road with my roll-on suitcase - as this is actually usually faster than waiting for pick-up at the hotel, plus the fare will indeed start at the minimum rate.
