Hello Again Danaedward,
I can see you're having a lot of problems finding a hotel that you'll feel comfortable in. I've just reviewed your last few posts and see that four posters (me, teacherlady, dingoruff, & susanna) have recommended the Alpenrose in Wengen. Can you give us a hint on why you are still uncertain? What about the Alpenrose doesn't fit the bill or seems to miss the mark?
Have you also looked at the hotel Rants & Raves here?
I just don't know what else we can say . . . !

Thank you for your respnse TeacherLady. I don't mean to be a pain. I decided Wengen would be the best location for us but I just wanted seasoned travelers to voice their opinions between the 2 hotels for a family. I'm just trying to not go absolutely blind on picking a hotel when I want this to be a very special trip for our children. Sorry... but I know you recommended Alpenrose over Janfrau so now I was wondering about Regina. The rants-n-raves are kind of dated... Thanks

Ok Swandav, I read you are the Geneva expert!! We arrive in Geneva (by plane) at 7:00 p.m. and thought we should spend the night there so the kids could actually see the scenery on the trains on the way to Wengen. Do you have any suggestions about that idea and if you agree with my thought process, can you recommend a couple of convenient family hotels. Thanks!

Hello Again Danaedward,
I'm glad you didn't take offense to my comment above; I was really puzzled about your posts! Remember that the board is usually less busy over the weekend, so you may want to top this message on Monday morning. And patiently top it once a day for a few days to try to get more responses.
But about Geneva -- I usually get out of the city and stay in Montreux, just over an hour away by train. If you're going via Lausanne, consider staying in Lausanne; if you're going via Zweisimmin (the route of the Golden Pass Panoramic), consider staying in Montreux.
In Montreux, a good spot might be the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic, a four-star hotel just opposite the train station with lake views. I've never stayed there (I like to stay right on the lake), but it might be just right for your overnight needs! The website is www.suisse-majestic.ch.
Sorry, I've never stayed in Lausanne either! But if you do a text search in the box above, you may find some good recommendations.
Best of luck --

Good Morning Danaedward,
I got to thinking about your first overnight, arriving in Geneva at 7 pm, and I thought that you may not want to hop on a train for another journey to Montreux. I sure wouldn't want to, even if it was on the way for my continuing trip! So I thought of a hotel near the airport that one poster here recommends frequently, the Domaine de Chateauvieux. It?s about five kms from the airport and 10 kms from the Geneva train station. I think it would be reasonable to take a taxi there. Anyway, this is a small, charming hotel outside of the city, in the middle of a vineyard. You can find it at the www.romantikhotels.com website if you do a search at that site for "Geneva." Although I haven't stayed there, it looks great from the website, and I trust the person who posts about it.
Hope you can use this.
