We are flying Swiss Air from the U.S. to Rome next month. Anyone have any experiences with Swiss? What should we expect? Thanks.

I've only flown it briefly-from Zurich to Frankfurt, but it was very comfortable and the food-billed as a snack- was great. A delicious cjeese sandwich on wonderful bread, decent wine, and lovely chocolate. Attentive attendents. Hope the overseas flights are as nice.<BR>Jane

Flew on Swiss from LA to Zurich in July. The flight was fine but I had expected more since I had heard such good things about Swiss. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think American has the most room in coach. We were fine, but the large gentleman next to us was cramped - knees hit the seat in front of him. <BR><BR>The food was airline food. It was dinner time, however, they served a "lunch". (Perhaps this was a language difference - I thought perhaps it was a cost cutting manuver.) The choice was chicken of some kind or pasta. We choose the pasta. Big mistake. Penne pasta with a 1/2 T. of sauce. They did offer lots of bottled water and wine. I didn't think the service was that exceptional. In fact, if you spoke German (Swiss), you got more attention. But I attribute this to the fact that it is just easier to converse with someone in your native tongue. <BR><BR>I don't know which model of airplane it was but the seat configuration was 2 - 4 - 2. There were two bathrooms for the entire coach cabin. What could have been a third bathroom was marked employees only and so I am assuming it was a bathroom for employees. Silly if you ask me with that many people on a plane.

I haven't flown swiss since the changeover. There never was a lot of room in coach -- what made it special [before American's "more room" days]WAS the service. The configuration was particularly bad on their MD-11s. I heard they were being phased out, but with the changeover from swissair to swiss I have no idea what's happened. I've always enjoyed the cabin crews and the icecream they serve midflight on the way back to Chicago Food wasn't special -- but swiss wine was surprisingly good!

I flew Swiss from the US to Berlin via Zurich this spring, shortly after the changeover. Everything-service, food, seats-was only fair. I chose a beef stroganoff type dish for dinner-the gummy noodles were stuck together, the dish had only 10 drops of gravy, two pieces of beef and exactly 1/2 of a mushroom. I speak German, but don't think it helped the quality of service. My personal entertainment system was broken, and I was not allowed to move to a seat in first class (the only available) to even watch a movie. I, too, was expecting better.

I don't think you all are being fair, what airline would allow a coach passenger to sit in first class to watch a movie? None I have ever been on.<BR>The food on all airline that I have been on is bad, so expect it to be and bring your own food.

My best friend who travels extensively for business in Europe and lives in Switzerland, still swears by "Swiss". Says it is just the same as it always was - VERY GOOD.<BR><BR>p.s. for above poster - Swiss white wine is GREAT... a well kept secret. They don't export much because they drink it themselves ;-)

Good evening, Michael Have made about<BR>14 round trip crossings on Swiss Air.<BR>They sold me after Italia and TWA which <BR>we used in the early days. Flew SA and<BR>been sold ever since, also Crossair is<BR>a very excellant airline. As far as<BR>Economy seating, steetage is the same<BR>on any airline, if you get more leg room<BR>you surely pay additional for it. As far as the food, AIRLINE, is all to the<BR>individual taste, what may be excellant<BR>to you may be really the bottom for another. Take what you get and enjoy it<BR>as much as you can, it halps to make the<BR>trip more enjoyable. Really have not<BR>noticed advantages to speaking German<BR>over english,.
