Glad to hear you're still tuned in swandav - we really enjoyed Gruyeres (we went back a few days later!). We hope to visit in the spring/summer at some point.

We were very happy to see the snow Ingo - a foot a snow covers up a whole lot of beige.

Adelaidean - 41c, yowsa, I don't envy you that nastiness. try to stay cool (and please, please don't send that stuff over here).

Oh, yes, Gruyeres has many charms, doesn't it?

I, too, managed to eat almost every last bite of a raclette, along with the bread, basket of potatoes, gherkins, pickled onions ... AND a serving of sliced dried meat! But I went to a different restaurant, where the servings MUST have been smaller. ;-) Only that would explain how I also managed to cram in a half-serving of Gruyere's infamous triple cream. (?!?) I kept reminding myself that I could roll downhill to my B&B, as long as I found a way to stop in time....

I admire your, umm, fortitude kja. I only managed one baby potato and no bread, yet I still almost exploded.

Sorry to hear I missed the triple cream - how ever did I let that happen? I don't know where I'd have put it though.

Let's just say that I was glad my waistband was elastic. ;-)

One day, you MUST try Gruyeres's triple cream. OMG!!! (I consider it a VERY good thing that I can't find it where I live.)

Melnq8, have a great time in NZ. We sadly just returned from 70+', blue skies, and sun walking long, sandy beaches to 0', no foliage on trees, and more snow predicted for our Midwest area.

We thought of you as we enjoyed a sauvignon blanc from NZ at a wonderful seafood meal. We normally like red wines, but visiting the Rippon Winery near Wanaka turned us on to that white. We'll stay tuned to your travel adventures.

"Once there, we boarded a Golden Pass Panoramic train (sitting on the right as suggested by kja)"

Gosh, I thought that was my recommendation --
(I posted on December 24: "FYI, if you are going to Gstaad from Zweisimmen, sit on the right hand side of the train as you head into Gstaad. You get a beautiful view of the valley....")

Oh well, glad to know someone else thinks the same way!

Oops, my mistake WeisserTee, I didn't confirm the source before I posted - thank you for the excellent suggestion.

tomarkot - did you just get back from NZ? We're on the NI in Martinborough at the moment indulging in some lovely Pinot Noir - surprisingly chilly up here for February, but you know we're loving it (although we're wishing we'd packed our down slippers).

Melnq8, We just returned from So. FL. We enjoyed a sauvignon blanc made in NZ, reminding us of our experience there two years ago. Have fun!

Oops -- sorry I missed that! The suggestion for which side of the Golden Pass on which to sit was not mine. I'm glad WeisserTee made sure credit was given where due.
