Suggestions on Italy itinerary
We are honeymooning in Italy late May through early June 2008. We will be flying into Naples and spending 7 nights at luxury hotel on Capri (b/c it's free). We plan to day trip from Capri to Amalfi Coast spots.
Here is our idea for the remaining 9 days of our trip:
2 nights Rome
2 nights Florence
2 nights Gimmelwald
3 nights Lake Como
Fly out of Milan.
Do you see any problems or have suggestions?
Thanks!

Please tell me you that your just trolling.
You start your trip well and then decide to rush around on a crazy schedule.
Grimmelwald does not fit into this schedule.
Two nights is not enough in Rome and really not enough for Florence.
Choose one.
Lake Como for 3 nights is fine
.
I do believe that you can train from Florence to Gimmelwald.
It's an overnight train that I think takes about 11 hours. I think it leaves around 11pm.
Then figure 6 hours back to Milan and you still haven't reached Como yet.
WAY too much traveling.
I understand the allure of Gimmerwald (I will be in Switzerland next year), but your plans needb to change.
Save Switzerland for an anniversary and add the nights to Rome and/or Florence.

I hate to pile on here, but there isn't much about this plan I like. Although Capri is gorgeous and your hotel is free, a week there is a long time especially if the weather doesn't cooperate and since there are so many other places you obviously want to see.
I'm assuming 16 nights and would spend them as follows:
5 Capri
3-4 Rome
3 Florence
3 mid-Lake Como
1 Milan
If it's only 15 nights, drop the 4th night in Rome. If your flight from Milan is in the afternoon, you could travel directly to Malpensa from mid-Lake Como without going into Milan and spending the night. That would free up another night to spend somewhere (like Florence).
Please re-think your plan and get back to us.

Thanks for the feedback.
Ok, here's revised:
7 Capri (even if we don't use all hotel nights, it will be our base for Pompeii, Serrano, Naples, Amalfi, etc.)
3 Rome
2 Florence
3 Lake Como (Veranna?)
What would be a good 1- or 2-night stop between Florence and Lake Como?

If you have an extra 2 nights, I too would use that time to explore hilltowns in Tuscany before you get to Florence, you won't regret it. Some favorites of mine is Orvieto (easiest if you are taking all trains, and not driving), Siena, Montalcino, Pienza, San Gimignano and Montepulciano.
