suggestions for possible road trip

College friend and I are hoping to do a self planned trip from Paris to Reims, Metz, Nancy, Strasbourg, Colmar and down to Lyon. We've been to Paris and not sure if we should begin there or fly direct to Lyon. Is renting a car to meander along our proposed route through the above cities, taking on too much? We are 69 and it's been a long time since driving a manual transmission. Is train travel the easier way to go? We want to do some vineyard visits, and the smaller villages, but also want to enjoy this trip. Wondering if renting a car might end up more challenging than we anticipate, with parking and suitcases etc. Any input would be appreciated.

I don't know where you're coming from, but the only direct flights to Lyon from North America originate in Canada.

I don't know why driving would be particularly challenging. Roads in France are generally well maintained, and signage is excellent. The only problem I could foresee would be parking in big cities. Trains are excellent, too, but of course they won't take you to vineyards or tiny villages.

It's unclear to me what, exactly, you're asking. There's nothing particularly unusual about your plans, whether you drive or take trains. If you do decide on trains, though, familiarize yourself with the oui.sncf site so you get the best ticket prices in advance.
