Anyone have suggestions for a hotel in Florence around $100 - $150? Looking for a good location but safe and clean. Just when I think I find a good one, I read so-so reviews and it's hard to choose! Thanks!!

We stayed at b&b Nina Nanna and were very happy with it. A few blocks north of the duomo, and about $90 a night.

Try http://www.proconsolo.com/rates.asp. It is literally around the corner from the Duomo. We had just a standard room and loved it.

depending on time of year, try hotel accademia.

Try Relais Cavalcanti. It's near the Ponte Vecchio and the Ufizzi. Very nice little boutique hotel.

We loved it!

We rented a splendid apartment -- their largest -- in the Residenza il Carmine on the Oltrarno (my old stomping grounds in the 70s).

And in late March we paid only 79 E per night for about 1000 sq feet of luxury! Much higher in high season, I presume.

The location suited us perfectly -- we even walked with luggage from the train station across the Arno.

We stayed at the Relais Grand Tour in May, http://www.florencegrandtour.com/home.htm
in the Diva suite and loved it. I could not believe the value of this place! The room was gorgoeus! Spacious with a big double bed, a sitting area with a chair and chaise lounge, a big wardrobe, a good sized modern bathroom with an incredible shower/sauna, a desk with computer and internet and shared garden terrace outside our door. Breakfast was at a fantastic little cafe two seconds up the street, the best coffee and fresh baked cornetto (included in the price of the room.) A total steal for 130 E (cash)a night. On a quiet street, a short walk to everything, 10 minutes walk to the Duomo. I highly reccommend it!

Try Hotel Casci. It is in a great location....Staff is really good, I think.

I second Relais Grand Tour. We stayed in the Actor's Suite in October, but all the rooms are fabulous (we loved the place so much, they gave us a tour.) Extraordinary little oasis. I almost don't want to keep telling people about it!

Someone above recommended Residensa Proconsolo (http://www.proconsolo.com)-- While we found the hotel clean, the room itself was underlit at night (I couldn't read in bed, the lighting was that low), and some of the furniture was rather rickety. It is very close to the Duomo, but if you get one of the rooms that face the Duomo you're also on a very busy - noisy - street, so a quiet night of sleep might not happen.

We stayed in Panorama Hotel and had a room with a Duomo view! It was spartan, but clean. The only drawback is that the onsite bathroom-shower combo had a weird layout with the bath curtains separating the shower from the toilet seat. But I was OK with that. The staff is friendly and the location is OK - not too close to Duomo, but in a walking distance.

A very nice hotel is the Hotel Silla. To me in a nice location on the other side of the River. Quiet but close to everything.
