Stumped in California. Help!
hello:
so I had booked Port-royal, 8 boulevard de port-royal (that's the street name) for september 9th for 3 nights via phone. The good man quoted me 76E so I was thrilled. Now my bf needs a Schenzen?? visa and that damned visa requires hotel confirmations. So I called the hotel and said pls pls fax me a confirmation. The lady said impossible can't do unless u deposit 200 E with us through traveller's check or bank draft(Bank has to have branch in France). Don't accept CC's of course. that would make it 2 easy.
Of course bank of america (we're in USA) does not have a branch in France. Traveller's check + Fed ex will cost at least about $40-50(well to India fed ex costs $50). The hotel is 76E. Though im very dissapointed at not staying at this damned hotel that's supposed to b great for 76E(great price 2), am I better off finding something else for like 80E etc...or shld I still go to the trouble of all this traveller's checks business?! Feeling stumped! wat do u suggest?

maybe U cd write not so much like U R writing an IM??
sorry...
anyway - can you GO to a bank that has a branch in France and send $$ that way?
And if BF needs a Schengen visa - is he not from the US?
I personally would not trust a reservation at a hotel where i paid no deposit..that's just me, but how will you prove you have a reservation when you get there?

Hi trav,
I also wouldn't rely on hotel reservations made over the phone with no mailed confirmation.
It's dicey enough when you have the paper in hand and they don't have a room.
Ask the landlady if you can send her a check for $260, which she needn't cash unless you don't show. (This is about $20 more than the current exchange rate.)
You can then pay her in euro that you get from an ATM machine after arrival.
I'm not sure that your BF will be able to get a visa in only 3 weeks.
Good luck.

thx ira - yeah the visa part is okay- we spoke to the embassy here for the visa and they said they will issue it within 1 week but we have to have hotel confirmations. The hotel seems to have great reviews on trip advisor and Rick S. recommends highly so I was looking forward. But to go to all this trouble - I dunno if it's that worth it. I guess need to start searching for more hotels now.
