Stuck in Frankfurt help! day trip advice needed!

I will be in Frankfurt in business for a few days in September. I am able to squeeze a free day (Sunday and Sat. night) to myself. There are so many options by train to choose, I need some help. Do I take a longer trip and visit a diff. country? or do I stay local and visit Wurzburg, Heildelberg or Rothenburg? Any suggestions?I enjoy medevil castles and historical sites. Many Thanks!!!

Tim, I posted the same question a week or two ago, so there are some answers that can been seen via a search. Try "Frankfurt Day Trips" or something similar.

Gerry K

Take the train from Frankfurt or rent a car and drive the 50 miles or so to Oberwesel on the Rhine River. There is a lovely castle hotel above the River called the Auf Schoenburg. We stayed there in May and it was fabulous. They have a gourmet restaurant where you can have a wonderful dinner on Saturday night and then cruise on the Rhine River on Sunday. Here are a couple of websites that may be of help:

http://www.hotel-schoenburg.com/index.html
http://www.loreleyvalley.com/oberwesel-infos/

I would highly recomment Wurzburg for a side trip from Frankfurt....it is a great city with a beautiful palace, an old fortress that offers great views of the city and it's just a lot of fun to walk around. Rothenburg and Heidelberg, in that order, would follow at the top of my list. You really can't go wrong with any of these.

Rent a car. Drive to Rothenburg. Spend the night and arrive in time for the night watchman's tour in English at 8pm. It originates in the town square. Spend part of the morning in Rothenburg walking the city, the criminal museum, the walls, shops. Head back to Frankfurt by way of Wurzburg and see that city and castle. From Wurzburg to Frankfurt is an easy trip on the autobahn.

Heidelberg is also anther option and fun castle to visit.
